Add your students
Start with one student to try it out, or connect a whole school. Follow the three steps below.
Connect your district
Your school’s IT person sets up the connection once, then gives you the address and admin access code.
Keep the admin access code private. Ask your school’s IT person if you do not have it.
Three steps to your first class.
Adding a name saves a student to your list. Connecting their Chrome extension is a separate step. We’ll guide you through both.
- Add students
Add one student below, upload a list, or connect your school system.
Add a student - Create a classroom
Choose a teacher and the student group they teach. For a test, choose yourself.
Create a classroom - Connect a student device
IT installs the extension. Use a setup code for a small test, or managed school identity for a district rollout.
See device instructions
Add a student without a spreadsheet
For a first test, use a made-up name such as Test Student and a group such as Test Class. For a real student, use their school details.
Adding a whole school? Connect Google, Clever, ClassLink or Canvas
School IT approves a provider connection first. Then review and save its students here. You can skip this for a small test.
Connect your student lists
Import students and class memberships from your school’s systems. Review additions, changes and students losing access before saving.
School IT configures approved provider access on the school server. Staff accounts and teacher classroom assignments are managed in Staff & classrooms. Student device setup is separate from roster sync.
Google Classroom & Workspace
Use your school’s Google student accounts and Google Classroom lists. Once IT connects Google and installs ClassGuard, students use their school sign-in instead of a personal setup code.
| Student ID | Name | Classes |

Ask IT to connect your school’s Google accounts first. Review the list before saving. Students no longer included in Google lose access after a successful update; a failed or empty update keeps your saved list.
Already have a spreadsheet? Upload a student list
Upload your student list
Download the template, replace Sample Student with your students, save it as a CSV file, then upload it below. Click Check student list, review the preview, then click Save students. Matching IDs update existing students.

Preview shows the first 25 students. Every student is checked before saving.
Connect a test student’s Chrome browser
First save the student and create their classroom in Staff & classrooms. Then complete these steps on the device you want to test.
- IT installs ClassGuard in Chrome. IT installation help. Complete the remaining steps on the device being tested.
- Download the setup codes below. Keep the file with IT. Find the student’s enrollment_code.
- Open IT device setup. Sign in as an administrator, choose the approved extension, paste the student’s code and click Authorize device setup.
- Open the authorization address in that device’s Chrome address bar. It works once and expires in five minutes. Look for Device setup saved, then close the tab. Students do not use a setup page.
Downloading codes does not connect a device. Complete the Chrome steps above. A “Code ready” status only means a code exists; it does not confirm that Chrome is connected. ClassGuard does not email these codes.
Rolling out to a district? IT can force-install ClassGuard and configure school identity so students connect automatically. This requires your school’s Chrome policies and identity connection; students do not need a separate ClassGuard dashboard.

Code ready = a code has been created. Check the extension on the student device to confirm it is connected.
